IMPORTANT CANDLE SAFETY MESSAGE FROM
RURAL/METRO FIRE DEPARTMENT
Hanukkah begins tonight at sundown. This will begin the beautiful tradition of lighting candles with your loved and ones and sharing in the tradition of this religious holiday. Especially during the holiday season, use extra precaution and care when using candles in your home. When left unattended a candle can get hot enough to put your loved ones and property in danger. Following these candle safety tips can help make your holidays joyful and safe.
Keep lit candles at least 1 foot away from anything flammable including:
- Curtains
- Walls
- Cabinets
- Upholstered furniture
- Mattress/bedding
- Clothing
- Books
- Paper
- Christmas trees
- Flammable decorations
Make sure to always extinguish candles before leaving your home or going to sleep.
Candles should be lit and extinguished by adults and should be kept out of the reach of children.
Candles, although beautiful, should be treated with extra care and attention.
Your holiday should be enjoyable but most importantly, safe.
